Making Green Industry a Reality, Krakatau Steel Group Strengthens Sustainable Waste Management System

Krakatau Steel Group emphasizes its commitment to accelerating the transition towards a green industry by strengthening the sustainable waste management system. As a concrete implementation of this commitment, PT Krakatau Jasa Industri (PT KJI) collaborated with the Environment Social Network Foundation (ESWKA) to manage waste in a measurable manner at the Steel Run 2025 event and the peak of the Krakatau Steel Group’s 55th anniversary celebration. And it is planned that the next corporate activation program will do the same in waste management.

This step is part of the corporation’s grand strategy to support the net zero emission target and environmental education for the industrial community in Cilegon. Waste management at large events is not just about cleaning the area, but rather efforts to collect data and sort it from upstream to ensure economic circulation runs well.

Waste Management Data and Results

During the event, the collaboration team succeeded in collecting and sorting a total of 441.8 kg of waste from two main points: the Steel Run finish line and the main location of the Krakatau Steel Anniversary.

A total of 15 cleaning personnel from PT KJI were specially deployed to ensure that any waste produced by visitors was immediately sorted at the waste stations provided.

Management Commitment and Social Impact

Ario Maryanto, Plt. The President Director of PT Krakatau Jasa Industri, stated that this data collection is important so that the impact on the environment can be measured accurately.

“This data collection effort is a form of our commitment to supporting waste management in a more measurable manner, so that it can provide benefits not only for the environment, but also for the surrounding community,” said Ario.

The downstream waste is allocated to two main routes:

1. 40% Managed Waste: Donated to the Ciwandan District Waste Bank for economic reprocessing.

2. 60% Residue: Sent to Bagendung TPA for further management, where most of it can still be used by local scavengers as a source of livelihood.

Currently Dr. Akbar Djohan also serves as Chairman of ALFI/ILFA (Indonesian Logistics & Forwarders Association) and Chairman of IISIA (Indonesian Iron & Steel Industry Association). And this program is expected to be a part of the progress/welfare of Indonesian society. And this is part of President Prabowo Subianto’s ASTA CITA.
