Pertamina NRE is optimistic that building a solar panel factory, this is the key to success

JAKARTA – Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) is optimistic that the strategic partnership with a longi in the construction of a solar panel factory with a production capacity of 1.6 Gigawatt (GW) per year has good prospects and potential. This was conveyed by Pertamina CEO NRE John Anis in the Media Briefing event on Thursday (3/7).

Pertamina NRE and Longi’s strategic partnerships were marked by the signing of the Term Sheet which was held on Monday (6/23) in Cikarang, precisely in the planned solar panel factory area. This solar panel factory is expected to provide many positive values not only for both companies but also for Indonesia.

“Pertamina NRE is aggressive to develop a green energy portfolio. To achieve this target, of course we need to collaborate with various parties, one of them with strategic partners. The aim is to share risks and knowledge transfer.

There are three things that are the key to success in the solar panel manufacturing industry. First, a large investment for research and development. This is crucial in industries that have many competitors. With research and strong development will produce products with technology that is always the latest compared to competitors. Longi consistently continues to update its technology so that the solar panels they produce have an increase in the level of efficiency. The latest solar panel technology, Hi-Mo 9, even the best in the world in terms of efficiency. Not only that, currently Longi has the largest solar panel production capacity in the world reaching 120 GW per year.

The second key to success is strong capital. With strong capital, the ability to deal with market dynamics will be stronger. And the third is to have a strong global supply chain. Longi has now supplied solar panel products to 30 countries with a delivery of more than 80 GW modules in 2024.

John added that collaboration with the number one solar panel manufacturing company in the world in this project will provide positive benefits for Indonesia, among others; Strengthening Indonesia’s commitment in accelerating energy transitions and achieving net zero emissions in 2060, developing the supply chain of solar panel industries in Indonesia and reducing imported solar panel products, transferring knowledge, supporting the realization of RUPTL, and increasing the capabilities of the domestic industry with TKDN achievement targets by up to 60 percent.
