Realizes the commitment of the Holding of the Nusantara Plantation of the Village Economic Strengthening, Palmco is actively empowering 49 thousand members of cooperatives

JAKARTA – PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Palmco, Subholding from the Holding of the Nusantara Plantation of PTPN III (Persero), continues to strengthen its commitment in encouraging the empowerment of people’s economy through strategic partnerships with village cooperatives. Until mid 2025, there were 139 local cooperatives with more than 49 thousand members who have become Palmco active partners in various operational areas of the company.

This partnership is part of the development of a sustainable agribusiness ecosystem that provides direct benefits to the village community. The presence of cooperatives is also a catalyst for local economic growth and creates a significant multiplier effect around the managed oil palm plantations.

“The existence of local cooperatives that grow along with the company’s activities is a real reflection of the multiplier effect of the existence of oil palm plantations that we manage. At present there are at least a hundred cooperatives with 49 thousand members who are Palmco partners,” said President Director of PTPN IV Palmco, Jatmiko K. Santosa, in his written statement in Jakarta, Wednesday (16/07).

Jatmiko added that the partnership was in line with the Red and White Cooperative program initiated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia. He believes, village cooperatives that have long partnered with Palmco will be stronger and ready to become pillars in agribusiness -based economic equality.

“The existence of village cooperatives that grow with Palmco is proof of how the palm oil industry can partner and become a populist economic stimulus. Hopefully with the Red and White Cooperative initiated by the President, Palmco is able to contribute more because his cooperatives are also stronger through the units carried out,” said Jatmiko.

One of the success stories of the partnership was reflected in the Red and White Cooperative Teratak in Teratak Village, Rumbio Jaya District, Kampar Regency, Riau. The cooperative, led by Desrico Apriyus, SE, developed into the center of the economic activity of the village community. In addition to savings and loan and trade activities, this cooperative is also a center for the Palmco fostered blacksmith craftsmen who are now the main suppliers of harvesting equipment for Palmco Regional III.

“There are different characteristics in the Red and White Cooperative of Teratak Village. In addition to savings and loans, trade, we are a collection of blacksmiths that are fostered by PTPN IV so that they are able to become centers of agricultural equipment producers that have penetrated outside Riau and even abroad,” Desrico said.

Palmco not only provides capital and training support, but also directly absorbs harvesting equipment produced by cooperatives. This step strengthens the independence of the village economy and opens new jobs for local craftsmen.

“PTPN’s support in the form of distribution of working capital, training, and also directly buying harvest equipment that we produce is truly extraordinary. The economy of the community is growing because many new craftsmen emerged and our villages are now very well known as quality iron blacksmith centers,” he added.

The Head of Teratak Village, Murlizar, also expressed his appreciation for the partnership that had brought a real impact on the community. “Now the community can easily shop for basic needs, even get direct health services from cooperatives. The impact is real and very helpful,” he said.

Another success story came from KUD Makarti Jaya consisting of 540 oil palm farmers. This cooperative noted the success in the People’s Sawit Rejuvenation Program (PSR) with Palmco, with the harvest achieved within only 2.5 years, much faster than the national average.

Meanwhile, in Batanghari Regency, Jambi, KUD Dwi Jaya runs the PTPN (Tampan) rice planting program by planting upland rice on the sidelines of the young palm plantation. On May 27, 2025, the cooperative managed to make a first harvest with a result of more than 10 tons of grain from 5 hectares of area.

A similar success was also achieved by the Trija Palm Producer Cooperative in Sanggau Regency, West Kalimantan, which last month began a handsome program. This program received full support from the Sanggau Regency Food Crops Office.

“We propose that 8,343 hectares of Gogo rice include a pattern of palm oil intercropping. We from the Food Crops Office strongly support this Palmco activity and will provide technical guidance by Field Agricultural Counseling (PPL) so that as early as possible can be improved if there are obstacles in the field,” explained the Department of Service.

Through the joint partnership of the Village Cooperative, Palmco strengthened its role as a motorcycle driving the local economy while expanding the impact of the sustainability of the Nusantara plantation holding in improving the welfare of the surrounding community.
