Telkom Indonesia continues the commitment of inclusive technology through the AI training program in Malang
In the midst of the acceleration of digital transformation, technological skills gaps are still a big challenge in various regions of Indonesia, especially outside the center of technology growth. Small businesses, local creators, to students often have difficulty accessing training in accordance with industrial needs. The low understanding of the Intellect (AI) makes it difficult for local potential to compete in the digital economy. If left unchecked, this gap is at risk of widening the distance between the center, and the region in terms of innovation and economic growth.
Answering these challenges, Telkom Indonesia through the Indigo program initiated AI training titled AI Opportunity Learning Program. This program is the result of collaboration with Google.org and the Asian Development Bank, and is supported by the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network as the manager of the AI Opportunity Fund. The training was facilitated by Remote Skills Academy and Nortis AI Academy, and was held in the Malang Indigospace Innovation Room.
The training took place on 5 and 12 June 2025 with more than 180 participants from various backgrounds, ranging from small business people, students, to the technology community. The material provided not only includes the introduction of AI basic concepts, but also practical skills such as the use of generative AI for content production, as well as AI implementation strategies in increasing business efficiency and productivity. In addition to getting a graduation certificate, participants also get access to the Indigo -assisted digital startup ecosystem.
According to Patricia Eugene Gasperz, Senior Manager of Indigo, this training reflects Telkom Indonesia’s commitment in opening access to technology and empowering local talents. “We believe that the future of AI in Indonesia does not only grow in big cities, but also from areas that are rarely touched by technology such as in Malang. In this training, the enthusiasm of learning participants is extraordinary, even from the first time I know AI. This proves that the potential is everywhere. Our task is to open the way and believe in their abilities,” Patricia said.
This program has a real impact, not only for participants, but also for the surrounding community. With new knowledge and access to AI -based tools, participants now have initial capital to increase competitiveness in the digital age. For SMEs, this means the opening of market opportunities and operational efficiency. For students and creators, this training is the initial basis for building relevant digital careers. Indigospace as an open collaboration space helped strengthen the bridge between technology and the needs of the community in the area.
In the future, Indigo hopes that this initiative can be replicated in various regions of Indonesia, and continues to contribute to forming an inclusive digital ecosystem. Throughout 2025, AI Opportunity Learning Program is scheduled to be present in other cities such as Gresik, Surabaya and Banyuwangi. In line with Telkom Indonesia’s commitment in supporting the growth of digital talents, Indigo will continue to be the main driver in expanding access to technology, building local capacity, and creating a comprehensive digital future.
